Western Washington Animal
Salamander: This forest amphibian can be found in any moist, dark place under rocks and logs, under bark, even under
leaf lifter. It must have moisture to survive. When first born, the salamander, like the frog, goes through a "polliwog" stage,
needing water to breathe until it goes through metamorphosis and is able to breathe air. The salamander captures insects with
its sticky tongue.
